WhatsApp – When You’re Sick Of Paying For Stupid BBM & Want Something Similar @ No Extra Cost at all

I would like to clear something before we move ahead with this post, nothing will ever beat the iMessenger (that is yet to come out with iOS5),Yes i’m a fanboy, SO what? sue me!  But we do have to compare so here it is.

OK, so you live in India, you just learned about a big fat company (RIM-Research In Motion, folks who make Blackberry Phones), what you didn’t learn was that they have been almost bankrupt since quite a long time now. Folks @ RIM saw India as a possible big market as they knew that we didnt know much about their weird/stupid messaging service. Kindly bear with me here, as i really don’t understand the need for such a service? as you all know that the “BBM-Blackberry Messenger Service” is used by many (including me) for the following purposes.

                            BBM                                     FOR THAT WE HAVE

  • Sending/receiving texts        -             The SMS service.
  • Sending/receiving images    -             The MMS service/E-Mail.
  • Sending/receiving voice notes-          Voicemail/Voice Notes can be mailed as well.
  • Status Updates                       -              Facebook/twitter/My Space/Google+
  • Venue Check Ins                      -              Again facebook.

Basically, i hate BBM & to top that , we here in India, have to pay for this monstrosity on weekly/monthly basis depending on the kind of package we choose. Which is also not at all decently priced. What I was pointing towards was that, you should totally get WhatsApp, the app costs $0.99 . No hidden costs (honest). You can update your status, talk to everybody (unlike those BBM douchebags, who just chat with other douchebags with BBMs & never reply to your basic SMS,even though they themselves are using the basic SMS tech., only that they talk to other douchebags with dumb BBM Pins)? How ridiculous is that? I mean when you can simply pay a buck (literally) & use all those exact features at no extra cost other than your 3G data plan or plane GPRS charges.

Plus, you don’t really have to add anybody as a friend, if he/she is in your phonebook, then they’re added automatically to your WhatsApp friend list, your friends just have to download the app thats it You can also share location, keep a Custom wallpaper, Custom notification sounds, switch to landscape mode, Precise message time stamps, Email chat history, broadcast messages and MMS to many contacts at once.

NOTE: With BBM, you only get to chat/talk/know people who also use BBM. BUT when you use WhatsApp, you can talk to practically everybody. As WhatsApp is available for iPhone, Android, Nokia & even Blackberry. :)

Get it today from the app store for only $0.99

Moreover, Whatsapp is free for the first year. ;-)

Yes it is. But even after that you’ll still have to pay only $1.99/year. Which is still a reasonable amount of money for so many features as compared to BBM in India. It costs approx. INR.399/month. You can do the math yourself if you plan on using BBM for the whole year.
